Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, blamed Monday night’s 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace on injuries.
The hosts completed the double over the Red Devils, with goals from Michael Olise (twice), Jean-Philippe Mateta, and Tyrick Mitchell.
The result leaves Ten Hag’s men in eighth place, with their hopes of playing European football next season fading.
Ten Hag told Sky Sports about the reasons for the defeat: “There are always reasons, and everyone sees our backline, which has major issues.
“At the end of the day, we have to deal with it, and we should have performed better.”
He went on to say, “It is clear and obvious.” This is underperforming. We did not act in accordance with our desires, and it is far from satisfactory.
“We are very disappointed, but the fans were always behind us, and we kept fighting, just like they did.”
