Andrew Wiebe, a football pundit, has explained why Lionel Messi is doing so well in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Defenders, he claims, avoid taking on the Argentine superstar.
This season, the talisman has been on fire, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists for Inter Miami across all competitions.
The Argentine talisman appears to be breaking records every time he steps onto the field in the MLS.
Messi contributed six goals when Inter Miami defeated the New York Red Bulls 6-2 in their last game.
At the MLS Wrap-Up, Andrew Wiebe stated that defenders are simply too afraid to embarrass themselves by facing Lionel Messi.
Wiebe said: “It’s the fear. Nobody wants to close in on Messi because they do not want to be embarrassed, but then he sits, waits, and finds the angle, and that is a connection [with Suarez] we have seen hundreds of times.”
The last time a team had the guts to physically tackle Messi was in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, when Inter Miami faced CF Monterrey.
Inter Miami’s attack was broken down by the opponents’ physicality, and Monterrey won 5-2 over two legs.
